  • Concept of Physics” Part I and Part I by H. C. Verma

H. C. Verma is a Nuclear Physicist who is a professor in IIT Kanpur, and his book “Concept of Physics” has been the bestseller among the IIT JEE student circles for years. This is a two-volume set which explicates the fundamentals of theoretical physics in a comprehensive manner and as result is an absolute necessity for students of Physics. Its subject matter is ideal for IIT JEE Main, JEE Advanced as well as most State Level Engineering Entrance Exams. This book’s major asset however, is the exercises present in it. It has multiple short answer questions and MCQs of varying degrees of difficulty, as a result it prepares students for all possible Nation-wide Exams.

  • “Understanding Physics” by D. C. Pandey-

This book is published by the Arihant Series specifically for JEE Main preparation. It is not for basic conceptual clarity in terms of theories in Physics, but is good for practice work. Once the students have honed their concepts and theories from H. C. Verma’s text, and have their groundwork done in advance, this book can be used to test their knowledge and their application of knowledge.

  • “Problems in General Physics” by I. E. Irodov-

Irodov’s book is an excellent text for students interested in grappling with advanced theoretical Physics. But this is also a drawback in terms of JEE preparation because often topics explored in this book are beyond the textual syllabus of JEE Main. This is because Irodov’s text caters to a wide-range of audience and is not specifically intended for JEE aspirants. Yet this book is ideal for astute students who are eager to learn and are looking for a challenge. Some of the topics require substantial deliberation and problem-solving skills, and if students are ready to engage only with portions of the text which is within the JEE Main syllabus they can skip to the specific topics.

  • “Fundamentals of Physics” by Halliday, Resnick and Walker-

If students are up to date with their fundamentals, from any of the 3 books mentioned above, they can use this as a reference book. As this text does not pander to the JEE aspirants and is geared towards students from American universities, it does not have much in-depth coverage of certain critical topics in the JEE syllabus.

These 4 books should be enough for JEE aspirants but apart from these, students should definitely solve the previous years’ question paxpers as well as several question banks.
