Que:    Is Aadhaar number mandatory to fill the application form?

Ans :   Yes it is mandatory to fill the application form, failing to do so you will not be able to submit the form. If you do not possess an Aadhaar card number, you will be required to enroll for it and then submit the Aadhaar Enrollment Number in place of it containing 14 digits along with a slash “/”.FAQ


Que:    What if I am unable to apply for Aadhaar Card?

Ans :   To assist candidates in getting the Aadhaar Card, CBSE has established various JEE Main 2018 Aadhaar Facilitation Center where the candidates can enroll for UIDAI Aadhaar Card and in case the facility to enroll will not be available the candidates will be issued a Registration Number which is the number you need to fill the application.


Que:    What is the difference between online and offline mode of JEE Main 2018 examination?

Ans :   There is not a big difference between both the modes, candidates who may not be comfortable with Computer Based Test (CBT) mode may apply for the pen and paper mode. In online mode of exam, you can select your exam center, date & time as per your convenience. Also, the pen and paper mode are more expensive than the CBT mode.


Que:    How can pay the fee for the JEE Main application form?

Ans :   You can pay the fee by both modes, online mode via Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking applicable only for ICICI Bank, PayTM/SBI Buddy Wallet/Cash Cards  applicable only for Syndicate Bank or the offline mode via the E-Challan of Syndicate / Canara / ICICI / HDFC Bank (Additional charges will be applicable).


Que:    Can I book a test slot of my choice?

Ans :   Yes, it is based on FIFO concept, so hurry!


Que:    Do I need to submit two JEE Main Application Form 2018 in order to apply for Paper 1 and 2?

Ans :   No


Que:    I am from Assam / Meghalaya / Jammu and Kashmir and the Government has not issued Aadhaar Card in our state yet. What can I do?

Ans :   Candidates from these states can apply for JEE Main 2018 by submitting details in Passport, Voter ID Card, Ration Card or any other ID card issued by the Government.


Que:    My name in Aadhaar Card does not match with that in the School Records. Is this an issue?

Ans :   Yes, this might harm the candidature. However, do not worry as you can submit a correction request at Aadhaar Center and in return to the correction request, the candidates will get a slip having a 14 digit enrollment number will be mentioned which must be filled in JEE Main Registration.


Que:    What if you forget your JEE Main Application No / Password?

Ans :   The candidates will be able to reset their password of JEE Main 2018 application form through the security question and answer chosen by the candidates during the filling of the JEE Main application form after which a verification code is sent on the registered mobile number or by using a reset link sent to you on your registered email ID.


Que:    What if you forgot JEE Main 2018 Application Number?

Ans :   Worry not. You can click on “I can’t access my account?” Following which, the candidates will have to select “I forgot my JEE Main Application Number” after which the some details will have to be submitted similar to the information submitted during registration like Candidate’s Name, Mother’s Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, State of Eligibility, Case Sensitive Security Pin and later click on “Submit”. The JEE Main 2018 application number will be recovered after submitting all of the required information.


Que:    In case a transaction fails while paying the fee, what needs to be done?

Ans :   If the payment status of the online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated by payment gateway in real time, then fee payment is not completed and the candidates will be required to pay the fees again either through the online transaction or by e-challan and to download the acknowledgement page. Your amount of failed transaction of credit/debit card will be refunded back within 7 to 10 days and if, fee payment is made through e-challan is not updated on the your application, the candidate must contact the concerned bank/branch for updation of fee.


Que:    How can candidates outside India (PIO/OCI/NRI) apply for the examination without the Aadhaar identity number?

Ans :   Candidates outside India may apply using their Passport details.


Que:    What is the JEE Main application fee?

Ans :   JEE Main 2018 application fee will be according to the category and gender of the candidate along with his/her choice of examination mode. The payment has to be done in online (credit card/debit card) or offline mode (e-challan). The fee will be displayed while the candidate is filling the application form.


Que:    If I have made mistakes in my application form, can I fill another one or correct the mistakes the form?

Ans :   Candidates can submit only one application. The correction facility will be opened by the authorities after the submission process is over(Expected from second week of January 2018).


Que:    Should I send the JEE Main 2018 application form & any documents to the authorities?

Ans :   No documents need to be sent separately to the authorities.


Que:    If I am a private candidate, or have done my 10+2 from NIOS, what should I put in my school details?

Ans :   The marks secured in 10+2 from NIOS have to be submitted by the candidates while filling the online application form. Along with the marks, the year of passing, name of school board, type of institution, name of school/institute of the candidate for 10th and 12th standard also has to be submitted.


Que:    How many exam centers should we choose?

Ans :   Candidates will have to select 4 exam centers according to their preference.


Que:    Where can I ask for help in filling JEE Main 2018 application form?

Ans :   The guidelines to fill the application form of JEE Main 2018 will be released by the CBSE official authorities. The candidates can refer to the guidelines to register themselves for the examination.


Que:    Is there any need to upload the thumb impression in the JEE Main 2018 application form?

Ans :   It is not mandatory to upload the thumb impression while filling the application form for JEE Main 2018.

Que:    Can I wear spectacle in the photograph?

Ans :   No


Que:    Would I need to upload non-creamy layer, nativity or community certificates?

Ans :   No


Que:    What if my father passed away, can l give only my mothers signature?

Ans :   Yes, you have to fill your mother’s details.


Que:    What all things should I keep in-hand while filling up the application from?

Ans :   Scanned copies of photograph, signature and thumb impression, Class 10th and 12th related information, details/certificates (For students who have passed Class 12th in 2016 or 2017) and payment method you want to use like Debit Card or Credit Card.


Que:    Is GST applicable on the application fee?

Ans :   In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit card, the candidates will need to pay an additional processing charge as following, Credit Card:-1.20% of the examination fee plus the GST as applicable and Debit Card:- 0.75%+GST for examination fee upto Rs.2000 and 1%+GST for examination fee more than Rs.2000.


Que:    I have attempted JEE once, how many chances do I have left with me?

Ans :   Applicants can attempt JEE Main exam 3 times only. Thus, you can apply two more times.


Que:    What are modes of filling up the application form of JEE Main 2018?

Ans :   Mode of filling up the application form of JEE Main 2018 is online only.

Que:   Candidate who have recently submitted the request for updation in Aadhaar details (including biometric updation) and unable to apply with the updated Aadhaar Card Details?

Ans:   Such Candidates have to apply for JEE (Main) by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by Aadhaar Centre after submitting updation request.


Que:    Aadhaar authentication may be failed in the first step of application submission due to following reason:-

a. The candidate has not entered the details exactly same as mentioned on their Aadhaar card.
b. The candidate’s biometric is not updated in Aadhaar.

Ans:    a. The candidates should verify whether they have entered the details exactly same as mentioned on their Aadhaar card.
b. Such candidates should submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre for biometric updation and apply for JEE (Main) by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.


Que:  The date of birth is not fully or incorrectly mentioned in Aadhaar card or only birth year is mentioned.

Ans:   Such candidates should submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre and apply for JEE (Main) by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.


Que:   The name of the candidate in Aadhaar in not exactly similar or not in same pattern as in school records.

Ans:   Such candidates should submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre and apply for JEE (Main) by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.
Such candidates should fill the form of JEE (Main) with old details in Aadhaar card and thereafter submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre. The updated details in Aadhaar may be corrected in JEE (Main) at later stage by the process which will be notified in due course of time.


Que:   The name of father/ mother is not exactly same as in school records. The address mentioned in Aadhaar has been changed due to transfer or some other reason.

Ans:   These particular are not being matched with Aadhaar data so the candidates should correctly fill these particulars as per school records. The present/permanent address may also be filled accordingly since CBSE do not send any communication on the candidates’ address.


Que:   How the Candidates of Assam/J&K/Meghalaya having no Aadhaar Card can apply for JEE (Main)-2018?

Ans:   Candidates who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya need to enter the passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number provided they should select the city of examination in these states only.


Que:   Can the Candidates of Assam/J&K/Meghalaya having Aadhaar Card choose Examination Centre across India in JEE (Main)-2018?

Ans:   Candidates who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya having Aadhaar Card can choose the Examination Centre across India. Candidate must ensure that Name, date of birth & gender in online application for JEE (Main) 2018 must be same in X,XII Certificate/Marksheet and Aadhaar Card details for the purpose of his/her identity and authentication.

Que:   What mistakes can be corrected during month of January 2018 when the corrections will be allowed by the Board?

Ans:   The correction in particulars can be done only if the candidates have paid the fee and completed all the steps of online application form of JEE (Main) –2018. The candidates can modify all the particulars including city of examination, Paper – 2 to Paper -1 and vice versa or select both papers of his/her application form during the facility of correction in January, 2018. The balance fee, if any due to correction in particulars, will have to be paid by the candidates during that period. However change of mode of examination from computer based to pen paper based examination is not allowed.


Que:  What action is to be taken, if the candidate has entered incorrect Aadhaar enrolment Id or want to update their Aadhaar number?

Ans:   Such candidates may also do the correction as clarified in point 1 above.


Que:  The candidates applied for both paper 1 & Paper 2 but do not want to appear in Paper –2 or Paper -1.

Ans:  There is no compulsion for such candidates to appear in both papers, they can appear in the paper of their choice. But there is no refund of fee.


Que:  When the candidates appearing in class 12th examination in 2018 or improvement examination in 2018 will enter their roll number of class 12th?

Ans:   The option of entering Roll Number is not mandatory, if it is allotted then mention it, otherwise leave it empty and fill the remaining options in the JEE (Main)- 2018.


Que:   What action is to be taken, if the candidate has submitted more than one application?

Ans:   Normally, at the time of issuing admit card of JEE (Main) both the application of a candidate (which appear to be similar) are merged and only one admit card is issued. However, the candidate should send e-mail to mentioning both the application numbers and specifying clearly the application number which they want to be considered.


Que:  In case the candidate(s) fails to book the date for online examination after paying the fees or the capacity in the selected city is full, how will they know about the date and session of the examination?

Ans:  If a candidate does not make any selection, he/she shall be randomly assigned a slot/date as per the availability of the same in the examination city selected by them. Details of session and slot will be mentioned on their admit card which can be downloaded from the website during March 2018 as per schedule.


Que:   What action is to be taken, if the candidate has opted Hindi/Gujarati medium for examination and wants to appear in English medium?

Ans:   The question paper will be bilingual (both in Hindi/English and Gujarati/English) for the candidates who have opted Hindi/Gujarati medium. The candidate can attempt question in any medium during examination.


Que:   What action is to be taken, if the candidate has opted English medium for examination and wants to appear Hindi/Gujarati in medium?

Ans:   Such candidates should do the correction in their application form as mentioned in point 1 above. In computer based examination, candidates can choose the medium on their screen during the examination.


Que:   Who is eligible for JEE Main 2018?

Ans:  For JEE(Main)-2018, Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2016 or 2017; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2018 are eligible to appear in JEE(Main)- 2018. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2015 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2019 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) –2018. Candidates who appeared in class  12th/ equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2015, did not pass in 2015, but passed in 2016 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2018.


Que:   If a candidate has passed in 2016/2017 and has appeared for improvement in 2018, what he will fill in the academic details section.

Ans:  Select the year of passing class 12th as 2016/2017 and enter the roll number, name of the board and other details of 2016/2017 in the application form. Select ‘yes’ in the column –appearing for improvement examination. The roll number of improvement examination 2018 may be filled in the month of March at the time of downloading admit cards of JEE (Main).


Que:  What is the State of Eligibility for the Improvement Candidates/Institution Abroad/NIOS?

Ans:  If a candidate has passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination from one state but appeared for improvement from another state, his/her state code of eligibility will be from where he/she has originally passed Class 12th/ Equivalent qualifying examination and not the state from where he/she has appeared for improvement.
Indian nationals passing the equivalent qualifying examination from an institution abroad, the State of Eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address in India as given in the Passport of the candidate. Candidate passed/appearing class 12th from NIOS should select the State of Eligibility according to the state in which the study Centre is located. The State of Eligibility is not applicable for the candidates belonging to Nepal /Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO.


Que:  In case photograph is not having name and date, would the form be rejected?

Ans:  Name of the candidate and date on which the photograph is taken is to be mentioned on the  photograph, but in case uploaded photograph does not have name and date, the form will not be rejected and no correction is required in such a case and he/she will be issued admit card for appearing in JEE (Main) –2018 as usual.


Que:  Is thumb impression mandatory while filling JEE(Main) – 2018 form?

Ans:  There is no need to upload thumb impression in online application of JEE(Main)-2018.


Que:  How will an NRI or a foreign student enter his/her mobile number?

Ans:   Such candidates should enter the mobile number of his/her relative residing in India.


Que:  Whether the candidates appeared in Paper –2 are eligible for admission to B.Arch. course in IITs?

Ans:  No, the candidates appeared in Paper –2 are eligible for admission to B. Arch. Course only in NITs/SPAs other CFTIs (where B.Arch. course is available). For admission to B.Arch. in IIT’s, there is separate procedure for which the candidates should see the website of IITs.


Que:  What is Eligibility for Diploma Students in JEE-Main 2018?

Ans:  Yes, to appear in JEE (Advanced) a diploma holder can apply in JEE (Main) 2018 but his/her rank and score for JEE (Main) will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission in NITs and CFTIs through JEE (Main) channel.


Que:  What are HSC vocational courses? 

Ans:  Different states can have different HSC vocational courses, so students of different states will have to verify it from their particular state.

Que:   If continuous time out or file not found error occurs while filling online application of JEE(Main)-2018?

Ans:   Use Mozilla Firefox/Internet Explorer (above 9.0) and good internet connection while filling online Application Form. In case of continuous times out clear cookies and history of the browser and fill in off-peak hours.


Que:   While paying the fee, what a candidate can do in case of failed transaction? 

Ans:   If the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated by payment gateway in real time then fee payment is not completed and candidate will not be able to download acknowledgement page. In this case, the candidates are required to pay the fees again either through online transaction or by e-challan and download the acknowledgement page. Your amount of failed transaction of credit/debit card will be refunded back within 7 to 10 days to card account. In case, fee payment is made through e-challan and the fee is not updated on the website, the candidate should contact the concerned bank/branch for updation of fee. Even if the challan is not updated by the bank till last date, such candidates should send the copy of paid e-challan through e-mail on

Application Form Correction

CBSE strongly advises applicants to be very careful while filling application form. For example, they can refer registration to see spellings of names of candidate and parents. Once the application form is submitted, there may or may not have a chance for form correction.


Only one time opportunity is given to JEE aspirants for correcting their details (Personal) filled in the Application form. JEE Main 2018 Application Form Correction window will be appearing from fourth week of January 2018 to first week of February 2018.


A candidate is eligible to correct the particular detail, once they have completed all the steps and have successfully completed payment of JEE Main Application Form. A candidate will be eligible to edit their personal details including scanned copy of passport size photographs, signature or change the exam mode from pen & paper based (offline) to computer based (online) exam but vice versa is not allowed.
