JEE

JEE Main 2018 will be conducted multiple times in a year from 2018 onward. Now, the engineering aspirants can get multiple opportunities in a single year to appear and qualify the JEE 2018 Exxam.

While announcing the Budget in February 2017, the government made it clear that a National Testing Service (NTS) will be formulated to replace CBSE from 2018 for conducting JEE Main 2018

NTS Agency

NTS will be the agency that will conduct all the entrance exams for admissions in higher education institutions of India. Also, all the engineering admissions will be brought under one exam, just like NEET for medical admissions.

National Testing Service will be conducting an aptitude test first and after qualifying it, candidate can appear in JEE Main.

The aptitude test may be conducted more than once or twice in a year. It is expected that about 4 lakh candidates will be selected to appear in JEE Main based on the scores in Aptitude test.

JEE Main Highlights

  • All Engineering admissions across the country will be done through one entrance exam. It is deliberated to bring uniformity in academic standards.
  • However, IITs will continue conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (advanced) for offering admissions. Students who qualify JEE Main 2018 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
  • The aptitude test may be conducted more than twice in a year, just like SAT in the US. There are also possibilities that the pattern of the common entrance exam will be changed.
  • Approximately 4 lakh candidates will be selected to appear in JEE (Main) based on their scores in Aptitude test.
  • The central testing service will be an ultra high-tech body, the exam mode will be completely online, and the paper can be translated into any language.

Earlier, the IITs had established the Committee of Eminent Persons (CEP) that recommended certain changes in the pattern of JEE for the year 2018. According to the sources, the council submitted its report to the Government of India and is set to be effective from 2018 session. The educational experts welcome this proposal stating that several global screening tests are conducted in the same way i.e. multiple times in a year such as Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and TOEFL.

As per the new format, National Testing Service may conduct the engineering aptitude test at least three times in a year. This decision will be in favor of lacs of the aspirants as they will not have to wait for the entire year to appear in the test again. In case the candidate is not able to clear the Entrance Exam at first attempt, they will still have the chance to appear in next scheduled exam. Moreover, they would also have the opportunity to appear in the same multiple times in a year.

The level of aptitude test for JEE Main 2018 is set to be upgraded to the level that is tested in JEE Advanced. The exam will be designed in such a format that will test the analytical aptitude of a student in the science subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Based on the ranks secured by the students, they would be allotted seats at the NITs and other CFTIs. JEE Main 2017 pattern was set to remain the same as previous years.
