NIT Calicut was primarily known as Regional Engineering College Calicut (CREC), was established in 1961. Later in 2007 under Parliament Act CREC converted to National Institute of Technology and became 9th NIT of India and the 1st to be set up under Third Five Year Plan.

NITC – Admission

Admission to the undergraduate engineering programs offered are based on JEE Main Ranking Cutoff and Seat allocation is under a centralised system of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Centralized admission means there is no requirement to apply separately for NITC.

Admission to the PG Programs like M.Tech and PhD courses are primarily based on scores in the GATE exam, conducted by the IITs.

NITC – Eligibility

Minimum of 75% aggregate is required in Class 10+2 with subjects Physics, Chemistry (Compulsory), and Math, Biology (Optional) from a recognized board.

10% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks is prescribed for SC/ ST category

The project will be implemented on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode with funding from both the Central and the State governments. Fifty acres of land have been allocated for the project by Govt.of Kerala.Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam, at Valavoor, Kottayam, Kerala is one among the 20 new IIITs that have been proposed to be established across the country.

The construction and development of the campus has been planned in three phases. The first two phases, which include the basic academic, administrative, and other developments, is estimated to cost INR128 crore, which will be shared by the Central and the State government, and the industry in 50:35:15 ratio.

The estimated cost of the third phase, which is envisaged as an expansion of the existing facility, will be around INR 70 crore.

IIITK Admission Process

Likewise, other NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, the admission procedure is operated by Joint Seat Allocation Authority and supervised by CSAB. No separate application is required to submit for admission in IIITK offered courses.

The central seat allocation authority (CSAB) decides the procedure for conducting the JEE Main and preparing a merit list for the general category of students and a separate merit list for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.

Subject to minimum performance criteria in the examination decided by the committee from year to year, the authority will offer admission, in order of merit, from these lists to candidates taking into account the choice of branch indicated by the candidate and the available seats in each branch in the 5 various Institutes.

IIITK – Registration Process

Registration process for IIITK is not separate from registration process of JEE Main which is completely online. During JEE registration and entire seat allocation procedure, applicant selects institution and engineering branches.

If applicant selects IIITK in preference for admission and he has enough ranking required for IIITK then seat is allocated to the applicant in IIITK through a centralised sat allocation system.

After seat allocation, applicant has to visit IIITK with all required documents and prescribed fee amount.

JEE Main Application Form will have to be submitted through official website of JEE Main i.e. www.jeemain.nic.in.

The application fee for JEE Main is INR 2000/- and it can be paid either through online mode using Net Banking, Credit Card & Debit Card or through offline mode depositing Cash in Syndicate Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank and HDFC Bank using e-challan which can be downloaded from JEE Main website.

After submission of fee either by cash or by online mode, candidate must check the status of fee payment. It should show OK on fee status then acknowledgment page will have to be printed. If cash payment is made and fee status is not OK then the applicant should contact the concerned bank and get the status OK. If online payment is done and fee status is not OK then the payment made online has been canceled and paid amount will be refunded to the concerned bank debit/credit card with in 7 to 10 days. The payment will have to be made again.
